Hi y’all. I’m hoping to get ideas/opinions on whether my recent weight gain seems normal.
I’m 24F and 5’9”. I’ve been around the same weight since mid-high school, between 135-140.
I did a lot of physical activity in high school and fluctuated with it a lot on college, leaning towards less activity. But I never seemed to change weight much no matter how often I worked out and what my diet looked like. I’ve never been restrictive on my diet either and ate as much dessert as I wanted.
Over the last 9 months I’ve started eating better - less cheese, smoothies for breakfast every day, lean meats only, more vegetarian meals, little snacking and very few desserts. Again, no change in weight.
About 3 months ago I also started working out much more consistently - lifting weights 3 times a week and playing tennis 1-2 times a week.
Then, a month ago I added in cardio during my lifting sessions.
I was just trying to be healthier, not necessarily lose weight.
But now I’ve gained about 10 pounds in less than 2 months. Even though I’m being more healthy than I’ve been since high school.
I’ve made no other lifestyle changes than eating healthier and working out more.
I know weight gain is just more calories burned than eaten but I’m not sure how I’ve maintained the same weight for about 8 years and now I can’t seem to maintain even though I’m being healthier.
Is it possible my metabolism has just slowed down that quickly now that I’m getting older?
Any advice is helpful! Thank you in advance
