So, like many of you, I love certain fast food places. I'm a single Mom who works full time and I have a history of binge eating. I definitely have a love/hate relationship with UberEats. I am tempted to order it literally any time I have a little disposable income.
But. I've been reading articles about fast food workers across the nation striking, trying to unionize, being underpaid and overworked especially during the pandemic. I haven't had to work in food service in a long time but it was never pleasant. During the pandemic, for many workers it has become unbearable. I feel guilty contributing to their struggles.
And speaking of the pandemic, literally every time you are trusting individuals you cannot see to prepare and handle the safety of your food, you are putting your health and even your life in their hands. The last couple times I ordered, I thought about how it was cold and flu season and we still have a pandemic. With so much understaffed, overworked employees on the job, how many of them were sick? How many were 100% supervised and 100% following safety protocols? We all have off days and make mistakes. This is not an attack on these amazing individuals. Just an accounting for human error.
Has anyone else given this any thought? I must say it is motivation to just go cook even when I'm exhausted and can afford to order something.
