Should I trust my PT despite her saying I need to eat more to lose weight?

26F here, SW: 188lbs, GW: 140lbs, CW: 172lbs Height: 5 ft 8 inches

Over a year ago I managed to drop down from 188 to 172 with walking around my university campus with a heavy backpack, although I was eating pretty much what I wanted.

Since then, I’ve tried restricting my calories to 1300-1400 plus exercising (both cardio and light weights) with little success… sometimes this calorie goal is difficult to maintain so I binge maybe once every 7-14 days.

Fast forward to this morning, and my PT (on our second session) said she calculated my protein and calorie goals… which shocked me… she said I should eat 1700 cals (with 150g protein) on rest days and 2000 cals (with 170g protein) on active days.

I have a few issues with this and I don’t know whether to trust her. I know what I was doing before wasn’t working as it led to much loss but also much regain... but I don’t know if this is the way to reach my goals.

I’m concerned about the calories being too high and also of becoming bulky. In our sessions she focuses on the weight machines and progressive overload.

Also (the isn’t meant in a personal or insulting way, just a difference in taste/goals) I’m not a fan of her body. Whilst she is certainly fit, healthy and muscular, she does look a tad bulky whereas my goal is to look a lot thinner. I’m worried that I won’t reach my specific goals with her current plan.

Should I get a new PT? Should I tell her my concerns? Should I carry on with her plan? I would be hugely helpful for any advice at all. Thank you in advance.
