My wife and I had our first kid back in August, and he's a little bundle of awesome.
I just wanted to share something which struck me as odd as new parents.
You tend to get unsolicited advice from existing parents about what to expect, this is normally harmless and helpful, but towards the end of the pregnancy this came up a few times from friends and family who ballooned up their weight during and after their pregnancies.
You will gain weight, it's unavoidable. It's not possible that you can maintain your figure when it comes to feeding yourself and the kid so don't even try
Now this would be kinda understandable if it were only directed at my breastfeeding wife, but I was getting this sort of nonsense as a dad
Which struck me as weird, all I could say is that I would try my best to avoid it.
Anyway, now that things are getting into a real routine at 16 weeks, the little one is sleeping through the night and we're really hitting our stride, I realised that my wife and I are more lean and controlled than ever.
During the most intense parts of the early newborn periods we kept our eating in check and ate well. My wife is looking and feeling fantastic and I'm happy to be where I was at the start of this whole thing
This is a bit of a long winded way of saying, don't discount your self controll and discipline just because someone tells you that you'll fail.
You got this, as do we
