Elliptical vs light hiking?

Trying to decide on a consistent exercise regimen. For most of the year, I've been dieting(CICO), and doing 30 minutes of moderate cardio on the elliptical every day. Great results so far, averaging 10 pounds or so a month(340>250).

Looking to start adding some light hiking into my weekly routine. I did a light hike today, a few hours then headed home. I feel too destroyed, even from a light hike, to step onto the elliptical. Not sure if I can do both, and I need this routine to be sustainable. Does anyone skip cardio or strength training on hike days?

I know light hikes aren't going to get my heart pumping like legit cardio, but I'd like to hear your thoughts.
