is 1200 way too low?

so a while back i was trying to lose some weight. i was hoping just to go ~10 pounds down total and based on online calculators 1200 seemed like it would work, giving me a loss of about half a pound per week. the first two days were manageable, but after that i started to feel weak, everything looked suddenly tasty, and i wanted to eat more. i basically binged the third day and couldn't stick with 1200 for more than a few days each time i attempted it again. not sure what to do now.

also don't know about increasing intake though, because then any progress would be really slow. is 1200 calories a day low or do i just need to work on self-control?

  • i'm 5'6 and don't do much exercise aside from occasional walks and messing around with dumbbells.
