Trying to model my reactions to weight fluctuations because so many folks freak out… so here’s me demonstrating to not freak out!

Today I inexplicably gained two pounds over night. TWO POUNDS. I’ve been going a steady 1lb loss a week for … three weeks lol. I was actually slightly under my calorie intake yesterday. I weigh everything. I log it all in MFP. I weigh myself daily as I like to collect data on how different foods/ sleeps/ activities affect my scale-outcomes.

Well let me tell you some data points that may have contributed to this. I hope this helps anyone else that gets worried when they experience something similar (which seems like a lot of folks!)

Step 1- yes I was bummed/ annoyed - woe is me.

Step 2- investigated why this was the case :

I have cumulatively in the last week got less sleep on average according to my sleepcycle app- under 6 hours. Less sleep = bloatage. Lesson learned: go to bed earlier.

I started exercising every day (walking, cycling, yoga -nothing spectacular) for the last 4 days. Change or increase in activity compared to baseline = bloatage and some other science that means no change or increase in pseudo lbs. Lesson learned: this will probably chill out once my body gets used to more activity

Although I was eating within my calories the last few days, my % fat intake increased. Maybe my body doesn’t like to have above a certain % of fat on a daily basis. Lesson learned: go back to the way I was eating a few days ago before I increased the fat content of food.

Step 3. Chill out and carry on with my day knowing it will all work itself out if I stick to CICO - and because right now my body is just getting used to some big changes. Some things I can control (sleep, how much of a certain food type I eat) and some things I can’t (how my body reacts to exercise)

Peace!
