Scale is simply not making sense.

So to start- I know digital bathroom scales suck and suck even more for very heavy people. I also know that it’s possible to lose a good amount of water weight when you’re first starting off, and possible to lose way more weight at the beginning of a program when you’re very obese than it is for a fitter person to lose that last 20 or so.

All that in mind, my scale is consistently trending downward, and I’m using the same stance on the same scale, so even if the numbers are off it should be providing some sort of data. And I started at 365 and I’m a naturally quite muscular man so I know it should be quick for me.

But it’s telling me I’ve lost 40 pounds in a month and I don’t know how that’s physically possible. I started intermittent fasting about a month ago, mostly 18/6, vaguely counting calories at about 2250 daily, which apps tell me would account for about 2 pounds a week. A couple weeks in I started doing keto, didn’t really worry about eating windows for a while, essentially ate what I wanted for maybe a week while just worrying about getting into ketosis. I started working out a few days ago, alternating lifting and an hour of incline walking on the treadmill. Still not really tracking calories, but staying deep in ketosis per the urine testing strips (which I know aren’t very accurate but give a relative idea).

Is this possible? I went from 365 down to about 345 extremely quickly, so I figured that was the water weight. But in the last two weeks I’m now down to 325, which unless I was carrying around 32 pounds of water weight and have only lost 8 “real” pounds makes zero sense to me.

This isn’t a humblebrag, I don’t get what’s going on and I would like to have a fuller understanding.

TLDR; Scale says I’ve lost 40 pounds in the last month, that does not at all match my level of effort and I don’t get it. What gives?
