How I lost weight and became healthier

Hi all. I am reading a lot of calls for help in this sub. I am by no means an expert but this is how I lost weight:

First a bit of background: I am a 24 years old german man. I moved out of my parents 1 year ago and gained 20 kilos in like 8 months (Corona, Gyms closed etc). My Gf at the time broke up with me cause she didnt found me attractive anymore. I struggled to find motivation to write my bachelor thesis or to do some sport or even to do something with friends.

Mid June I decided I had to do something. Out of an impulse I signed up in a local gym and started going like 4 days a week. I didnt change my diet at first. I just went at the gym and did what ever looked fun to me. Before every exercise I looked it up to do nothing wrong. And when gym wasnt fun anymore for today I left. Over time I started to go even more often like 6 times a week. I noticed some slight changes and thought to myself: If I really want to look attractive (in my own eyes) I have to change my diet aswell. So I googled again. And again. And even more. I replaced all my energy drinks (love those) with sugar free energy drinks. Instead of take aways stuff I just make a lot of rice or noodles with a premade sauce and some precut vegetables. Takes like 10 minutes and I feel much better than eating Pizza all the time.

Right now I am 5 Months into my journey: I managed to finish my bachelor degree, I like my appearence, I look at least a bit bigger, I didnt change much on the scale ( I guess cause of muscle gain) and im just happier.

So what are the take-aways from this: Go to the gym and leave when its not fun anymore for the day. 20 min of sports are better than nothing and it also lifts your mood. Replace sugar drinks like cola and energy drinks through sugar free variants. Eat things that keep you full not just salad. If you feel bad and itd evening go to ved early. The next day will be better.

Sorry for the formatting and my bad english. Have a good day all :)
