During pretty much most of the pandemic, my friend was furloughed from his job and he spent months at home. A little over 3/4 of the year. During this time, He fell into perhaps the deepest depression and worst anxiety of his life. Living indoors and only going outside a few times per day to walk his dogs, and never really exercising. He pretty much sat around at home constantly. He’s in the later half of his 30s, is about 5’9” and he’s up to around 300 pounds when he was about 250 or so before.
He’s back at work and has had a hard time of it, getting easily winded and he says it hurts and there is a new, noticeable “tightness” in his knees whenever he has to bend downward, and once he has to stand back up, he says the stiffness and pain are at about a 5 or 6 on a scale of 1-10.
What can he do to make his knees stop hurting so bad or stop altogether when he bends down or squats, like he has to do at work every other day, or whenever he has to pick up his dog’s poop?
Im really worried about him and I want to help him however I can, even if it’s just helping motivate him to go walk with me for a half hour a few times a week. Do you think that’d help any? What suggestions can I pass along to him to help? Thanks in advance.
