Your Tastebuds Will Change (for the better)

I got my booster shot on Saturday night, round 3 of Moderna. Rounds 1 and 2 kicked my ass, and three was not any better. I was feeling really miserable and sorry for myself so I made an old favorite: mac and cheese. I'm gluten-free so I have to use corn pasta and honestly... after eating super healthy and less-processed for over a month (and down ~12 pounds because of it, very little refined sugar or refined/processed carbs), it tasted HORRIBLE. I ended up throwing the whole pot out after about 3-4 gagging bites. The consistency and texture of the pasta was not good, and I felt like I was eating a sandy bland salty cheese ball.

"Back then" I would have eaten it despite literally saying out loud "I'm going to regret this." I would not have noticed the taste/texture because my neurons would have lit up like a carnival + fireworks show upon imbibing the carby gooey salty blob. I've noticed this for other things too. On halloween I decided to try one Reeses cup. It tasted like sugarvomit, so I threw half of it away. And yet I'll do a happy dance while eating a carrot or an apple now, its like an explosion in my mouth. I will say, on Booster Day I also had pancakes for breakfast (I was trying to go over my budget for one day, haha) and they were pretty good but I only had two and two pieces of bacon before it was just too much sweet. I would have been just as happy with a fruit smoothie. Pancakes may be a once every couple months thing, where they used to be a saturday morning staple food (and triple the portion that I had).

It worked for me, your mileage may vary: a month completely "off" the binge-eating triggers (processed carbs and sugars, for me) basically stopped my binge-eating habits in their tracks. I've never done well with "moderation" so I finally took this approach to my diet and it seems to be working where "moderation" was not. I just no longer enjoy the taste of those things anymore, and its great, and I don't miss them at all. I do still really love me some sea salt and almond dark chocolate, but I eat one or two squares at a time before putting it away for a couple days, because otherwise it loses its "joy" if I eat too much in one sitting.
