Anyone else notice their Fitbit is grossly inaccurate on stairs?

I hike (a lot) and so I track my trips with a GPS. I noticed that my Fitbit logs a LOT more stairs than really happened. E.g. this morning I didn't go near any stairs and it showed 20 floors climbed (which I assume is around 200' of elevation gain). The hike I did today was about 700' of elevation gain - and my Fitbit shows 250 flights of stairs (or approximately 2,500 feet of elevation gain). And if it IS this grossly inaccurate, is it overestimating my calorie burn - or is the calorie burn primarily from the heartrate monitor?
