Safe and healthy way to do a shred challenge

So my gym is starting a shred challenge next month for 30 days. It is simple rule: whoever loses the highest percentage of body weight (not body fat) wins. The winner last time they did this weighed in at exactly 200 pounds and lost 17 pounds for 8.5% of total body weight lost.

It seems like some really brutal and unhealthy practices are utilized by people to try to win. Without hurting myself, what are some ways that someone could theoretically win this competition without unhealthy or harmful ideas?
