Gaining weight, but looking slimmer?

Hey guys

I do a sport, where i have to be at a certain weight in order to compete. I have been reducing my calorie intake and upping my running and feel slimmer. I also do some strength training a couple times a week. And i think this is where the problem might be.

So i run 5 times a week and strenght train around 4 times a week(Sometimes after running). I can see my stomach shrinking and i've been told i look way slimmer than my starting weight. However when i check the scale, i look to either be stale or increasing slightly. I was thinking it might be due to beginner gains? As i look more muscular than when i started with all my activities.

So my question is, should i cut out the weight lifting in order to lose the weight faster or will the "beginner" gains subside and wont matter soon enough?
