Asian BMI vs Non-Asian BMI

I didn’t know there was a different BMI calculator for Asians and Asian Americans (source: https://aadi.joslin.org/en/am-i-at-risk/asian-bmi-calculator). Can someone explain why?

The whole time I was looking at the wrong table and thought I was already nearing my goal (current BMI now is 25.1, which means I only have 1 lb to go to be deemed « healthy »), when in fact I have a whole lot more to lose to be deemed « healthy » by Asian standards (need to lose 12 lbs to reach BMI of 22.9)!

I’ve managed to run 2 to 3 times a week for about a year now so I really thought I was doing pretty well. This is so demotivating. But if it means I’m at higher risk of developing diseases, then I guess I’ll just have to try much harder.
