I'm looking for a food diary/calorie counting app that will let me log food quickly without searching through a detailed food database.
Background: I lost a ton of weight around 2007 using Noom. At the time, it wasn't a fancy subscription CBT/coaching service-- just a calorie counter. The beauty of it was that instead of logging the specific foods you ate, you would determine if each food was a red, yellow, or green food and log how many servings of each type of food you had. That was so much easier than apps like the current Noom or MyFitnessPal, where you have to type in very specific dish names and fudge when the thing you made at home doesn't match an entry. There was no trying to guess how many grams of almonds are in a handful.
It was a logging habit that I could actually maintain: You ate an apple? That's one serving of green, you ate a 12 oz steak? That's 3 servings of red.
The counts were wildly approximate, but I don't believe that the more detailed database logging apps are really that much better, especially if you cook most of your meals yourself. I would love to use that same app, but it has morphed into the modern Noom app and there's nowhere to download the old version.
