Hi all! I've seen posts similar to this from a few years ago, but I haven't felt super comforted by any because my situation is a little different from the other posts.
Okay so, some background: I made a post recently about how I lost 20 pounds over a few weeks at college, and I'm aiming to lose at least another 25 by the time the wedding rolls around in June (7 months from now), which is COMPLETELY doable for me and because I'm already doing well I'm very motivated to get to my goal.
Actual story/issue: My best friend from high school is getting married in a few months to her high school sweetheart and she asked me to be a bridesmaid (yay!!), but my current main issues are money and location. We're both 19, so we're both sophomores in college and I'm trying to get to my pre-COVID size again. I go to school across the country from my hometown, so I need to pick my dress this month before I have to head back to the dorms in January. Normally I'm a size 12, ~195 lbs, but in David's Bridal dresses I'm a 14 because I've grown a cup size recently (the annoying parts about growing up). My goal is to be 160 lbs by the wedding, which is what I was at before the pandemic, and at the time I was a size 8, which means I'll most likely be a David's Bridal size 10 by June if not smaller (but most likely not).
I have a lot of issues in terms of picking a dress style because I have a much curvier body from every other bridesmaid, so finding a dress that matches theirs in style while looking good on me is a hassle already, and then the added stress of trying to figure out what size dress to get and when to tailor it is making me FREAK OUT. Every other post I have seen says to buy a dress in my current size and then "worst case buy a smaller one around the wedding", but I'm a college student and I can spend some money on one dress but definitely not a second one. I'm currently home until January, and then I come back again for a week in mid-March, about 12 weeks before the wedding, and I don't think I'll have the money/time to fly back in the middle of spring classes to be fitted 6 weeks before the wedding. I really don't know what to do anymore, and none of my immediate family members have been bridesmaids before so it's been super confusing to figure out on my own. Any help would be SERIOUSLY appreciated.
A side note: Any tips on what to do in terms of picking a dress style would also be great. I have very board shoulders and a large chest and some decent curve, while all the other bridesmaids are skinny and not nearly as curvy. They all found their dresses, but the bride wants all the dresses to look cohesive even if they aren't the same dress. Problem is, because I'm larger up top it's really hard to find stuff that looks good on me that looks similar to theirs, especially since they all chose spaghetti strap dresses. UGH!
