Chewing gum to avoid snacking?

I personally used sugar free chewing gum to avoid snacking throughout the day and it works really well, it's great advice to avoid snacking but I found a downside to it.

I used to have a pack of gum with me at all times at work and a 2 litre water bottle, and I'd chew gum to curve the urge of wanting to snack and it really helped. The downside is that at the end of the day I wouldn't have had enough of my water and I'd not be properly hydrated. Since I was tricking myself I was full, I was also tricking myself that I was hydrated and not drink water. The days I didn't have gum I'd finish the bottle easily and avoid the same hunger. It isn't to say chewing gum is bad or doesn't work but I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you can, use water to fill up instead of/or in addition with chewing gum to curve hunger/snack urges.

Not sure if this is even relevant to anyone or if this is news, helpful or anything but I just wanted to share something I had noticed of my own habits.
