I will use myself as an example to explain what I mean....
I'm male, mid 30s, 5'8, 160 lbs, and my waist is 38 inches. Im what you call skinny fat, i have a belly that hides well under clothes (but not without) and little to no muscle. I know that i need to cut on a caloric deficit to lose my belly fat while getting lean in the process.. And then once thats done i can do a clean bulk.
I know that is what i need to do. But everyone i know is always like why you doing that? You already skinny you dont need to lose weight! Oh thats a small belly thats nothing!
No matter how much i try to explain things to them (i.e. why bulking with a 38 inch waist at my height/weight is not a good idea or trying to explain why its more beneficial to one's health to be lean, fit, and muscular), they just don't get it.
It's not that i care what they think about me, I'm still doing what i gotta do. I'm just trying to wrap my head around it and understand their thinking. I'm sure this is a common issue?
Obviously these people, as much as I like/love them, don't have a clue about how fat loss/muscle gain work. Many don't believe im fat under my shirt. And the few who know me without my shirts (i.e. wife, etc) think its not that much and i should just eat more/bulk while exercising, as if im going to magically "lean out" in the process lol.
I don't get it. Is it just some people have a certain pre-conceived image of how they think i should look? Or are they just dumb when it comes to all things fitness?
