I've been at this for a bit over ten months and objectively I'm doing really well. I've lost 145lbs, I walk 3 miles almost every day and workout 3 days a week. My shirts from when I started hang down to my knees now, I've gone from 4xl to 2xl. The problem is subjective. When I look in the mirror I don't see less fat I just see fat, even though it's gotten easier to get up and move around most of the time all I can feel is that it's still hard. Part of it is that I have pulmonary disease and am making poor progress in building up endurance. My primary motivation to start getting into better shape was bike riding and outdoor hiking and as I struggle to consistently get a walking speed of 3mph it's getting more and more apparent that bicycling isn't a realistic goal and weekend hiking trips will continue to be extremely limited.
With my original motivation gone I'm looking for something to keep me going so when do you start feeling different? At what point do you look in the mirror or finish a walk and say "All this work is paying off, I'm making good progress and feeling better."? What amount of change and struggle is finally enough?
