I want to stop calorie counting

I feel like I’m obsessive about it. It makes enjoying breakfast with my kids difficult because I have to cook myself a different meal. I don’t get to eat out as much because I can only guess how many calories is in food. And when I go over, which is often if I ever want a snack, a second cup of coffee or dessert, I feel like shit. Has anyone stopped counting calories and followed some more mindful patterns (light breakfast if a heavy dinner, one dessert max, drinks only on weekends, etc) and been successful?
