Cutting with NA beer 🍺 is a game-changer…

In December I gave up alcohol with the goal of going a full sober year. Was definitely indulging too much in the good stuff, putting on weight. I was also celebrating a year of no smoking or vaping and it’s changed my health so I was kind of itching for another self-improvement challenge.

I also slowly started getting back into food tracking/calorie and macro counting via Loseit (MFP is too expensive so I quit using it).

As of late Ive been trying different non alcoholic (NA) beers. ODouls and St Paulis dont taste like beer and its all I knew from NA beers, so I wasnt sure what to expect.

To my surprise, the NA scene is quite good! The deschuttes porters are good. The athletic brew ipa is good. The bud zero is good! Heineken zero isnt great, but its good enough.

I track the stuff like everything else, and even with 4 beers (50 cals each) in the evening, I’m losing weight fast on the cut. I know, iifym says its supposed to work, but I remember any regular alcoholic beer on previous cuts would bloat me and set me back 2-3 days regardless of calories and macros.

On top of that, sober felt lame the first month or two, but now it feels great. Especially since I can still have a “beer” on pizza night or at a bar. There are no downsides except for no wine and liquor. I dont have a strong reason to not continue non alcoholic past next December. Anyways,

TLDR: in my opinion moving to non alcoholic beer while cutting will keep you on track and motivated way more than regular beer, and as long as you stay away from Odouls and St Paulis, you wont be sacrificing the feel of having a beer on a friday evening. Give it a shot and see how you like it!
