I met with a nutritionist today to chat about methods to lose weight. I've lost significant weight before counting calories and walking, but I'm dealing with a lingering knee injury that's now affecting my back and even standing in line at the grocery store is painful. I'm overweight, but not obese.
She recommended a daily GLP-1 (my insurance won't even cover the once a week GLP's like Ozempic) and warned me not to eat or drink anything (including water) within 4 hours of going to bed. I'm writing this a little late, but usually at 8pm I'm getting ready for bed and I'm asleep by 8:30, so not eating anything after 4pm seems difficult. She also touted the need for a NO carbohydrate diet and to focus on fats. Even an english muffin is too much sugar. On this point, she also said I can have black coffee only. If anything at all tastes sweet, it's forbidden.
I'm not looking for permission to eat cinnamon rolls or some ice cream, but this seems super restrictive for a person who has spent a decade developing bad habits. Do ya'll really just snap out of them overnight? I feel like the extremes of this are detrimental and not sustainable.
I appreciate any thoughts or feedback. I'm quite frustrated after this appointment.
