(Advice) People who have been overweight since you were a kid and lost weight as an adult...

How did you do it? I think the last time I was at an okay weight range was in kindergarten. I am now f22, 5'8 and 280 pounds. I've tried so many times to lose weight, one of my biggest goals is to just be healthy.

My main issue seems to be consistency and lack of knowledge. My family eats out a lot, and when we do cook it's not too healthy.

Any advice is welcome, I'm starting to think it's impossible to be a normal weight seeing as how I never have been. I know of a lot of the things I should be doing, like calories in calories out, but how can I be more consistent? Are there any book recommendations that might help?
