Trying to Lose That Freshman Fifteen

Hello, this is my first post on this sub. I'm a 19 year old 5'3 woman, and my weight as it stands is 145 pounds. I've always been a little overweight, with my usual weight being around 130 pounds, but this is the first time I've ever gained so much in a short period of time.

My problem is that as a university student, I really don't know how to take care of myself. Throughout first year, I ate cafeteria food essentially, with unlimited desserts, which more or less destroyed any attempts at NOT gaining weight. As an emotional eater, I also stress eat and binge eat a lot. This is not a good combination for a university environment.

I did actually try to regularly go to the gym often, but would immediately stop as I got swept away by finals or midterms season. I also tried to track as much of the food I eat via MyFitnessPal, but it doesn't stop my binge eating or anything like that, which ruins any sort of work I do by tracking the amount of calories I eat.

For second year, I really desperately want to change my lifestyle, and begin to actually lose weight. I'm going to spend quarantine learning how to cook for myself, but my question is what steps can I do to improve my mindset, especially when it comes to emotional eating? If I don't have time for the gym, what else can I do instead? Any other general advice for a university student?

All help is appreciated, thanks so much!
