Hi loseit
After having kept track of my calories in MFP for 3 months and losing 6 kgs (13 lbs), I'm taking a break from calorie counting. Here are the reasons why:
- I don't plan on tracking calories the rest of my life. Taking a break will help me improve my ability to eat within my calorie limit intuitively and to stay in tune with my natural hunger and fullness cues.
- The reason why I started tracking in the first place was to become more aware of where I've "gone wrong" in the past. I've always had this idea that I eat fairly healthily, but I also can't deny that I've been putting on weight slowly and consistently throughout the years. Tracking calories has helped me figure out which quantities and types of food fit my needs better. Taking a break from tracking puts my knowledge to the test - let's see whether I can intuitively eat within my calorie needs.
- I don't want tracking to become an obsession or a comfort blanket. I feel slightly daunted about not tracking, and that's all the more reason to not track!
If anyone's interested, I'll report back after next week and let you know how it went. I'm excited about not weighing everything I eat, but a bit nervous about not having MFP tell me how many calories I have left throughout the day.
Best wishes,
Molly
