NSV: Grocery Cart Pride

6-8 months ago, my grocery cart would be full of multiple kinds of cheeses, cookies, cake, ice cream, chips, guacamole, hummus, mayonnaise, and maybe some sliced turkey, whole wheat bread, frozen mixed veggies and some lettuce thrown in to make me feel healthy. some of this stuff I obviously knew was not healthy, but convinced myself I'd ration it out / control binges / be "good" about it (never happened that way). the lettuce would rot, and the veggies would be doomed to my freezer forever.

But I had a nice, happy moment today when I looked down at my grocery cart and realized how much my buying habits have changed. I bought cottage cheese, greek yogurt, broccoli, low-fat string cheese (that i use pretty much exclusively to put on the broccoli, one stick at a time), oranges, sparkling water, tomatoes, pickles, cucumber, and onion. and these are things i actually really WANT. im not walking past the cookies and pining after them -- i'm past the cookies before i even really notice i've passed them. it really, really is true that those small little changes you make every day add up to big changes over time.
