I recently have started to diet and workout in order to lean out; I am 6'0, around 220 pounds, and almost 18 years old. I am confused on what exactly people mean by being "calorie deficient". I thought it meant that you must burn more calories than you have consumed everyday. However, recently I was told that it means that I should try to eat 10-20% less a day than I typically should. For example if an average human is supposed to eat around 2000 calories a day to burn fat and lose weight the person should eat around 1700. I have been using my the app called "MyFitnessPal" in order to help keep track of my calorie intake. In the app it states that I should try to consume around 1,840 calories a day, but when I add the amount of calories burnt throughout the day from my workouts and daily routine as stated from Apple Watch, the number of calorie intake grows to around 2,840. So is the 1,840 calories I'm supposed to eat just the amount I should consume if there is no exercise or really any calorie burn in my daily life and that the calories I do burn is suppose to raise the amount of calories I can intake throughout the day? or should I just try to stay below 1,840. If anyone can help clarify it would really help out! ,and if anyone could add any dieting tips it would also help out!
