A couple years ago I decided to get really serious about my weight. I was obese and unhappy, but through calorie counting I learned what real portions looked like, lost 50lbs, and maintained all this time. But I’m still about 30lbs from the top of the healthy range, and closing that gap has felt impossible. Advice would be greatly appreciated if anyone has been in the same boat.
I stopped calorie counting after my first loss plateaued as I got busy with traveling to visit my long distance partner, and working to fund said trips. I found I have been able to maintain without counting as I have adapted to proper portions; what I used to eat feels physically impossible now. My life has settled down since I moved in with my partner, and I would like to get to the healthy range. I want to know what it feels like to get there, and prove I can do it.
I’ve tried a couple times to jump back into counting, but I get easily discouraged now. Partly because I’m out of the habit, and partly because with the calorie needs as low as they are (MFP recommends no more than 1200) I feel like the tiniest thing can set me over the limit. A snack my partner brings home, a non zero cal drink. When I initially lost weight I didn’t ban calorie rich foods, I just limited my intake of them, and imagining switching to ‘clean’ eating sounds daunting, and it feels like life’s unpredictability will just squash my efforts. And even when I’m in control it feels like a simple sandwich takes half my daily cals.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there any way to make this transition easier?
