Anxiety and Low Self Esteem from Exercise

I really want to get active again. Though always overweight, I played sports until high school and since then my health and ability has declined greatly. Now, whenever I try to exercise, I get anxious immediately and have to stop. It's not a physical thing , it's mental. I'm embarrassed and cringe at myself for being the fat guy trying to lose weight. A minute of "exercise" will leave me paralyzed with self hatred for the rest of the day. Does anyone else experience this and how to do I overcome it?
