Im a 27m/SW 100kg/CW 96kg/176cm and one thing I've learned over my short journey since April that I haven't seen too much on this sub of is building habits with small promises. Even if it is the most obvious thing in the world, I thought I'd share:
The first thing I wanted to do was be able to run 2 times a week. But Im depressive, anxious, sedentary, sleep deprived, stressed and unorganized so I decided to be kind to myself by swearing a simple promise: "Put on your runner's clothes and shoes, stand by your front door." 2 times a week. Then I could undress and go back or go outside to run. Observe the results for a week or two and then add another promise on top of it. I've now gone from having to alternate between walking and running every 200 meters to being able to run 3 km no stop and I've been slowly introducing a 3rd day for lifting weights since early June.
I gave my diet the same treatment, intermittent fasting between 12:00 and 20:00. I ate whatever I wanted in that window. Ran into some problems with feeling hungry afterwards, remedied it by bunkering up with ricecookies and sugarfree Pepsi available at all times after my window. It went better till I started having trouble keeping to my window due to my terrible sleeping patterns sometimes leaving me with only one meal a day. So I added that if I've only eaten once during my window, I had to cook and eat a meal regardless of the time and then have the fasting resume as if that meal had never happened. Now Im experimenting with cooking, portion sizes, keeping a waterbottle near me the entire day and working to eliminate the rice cookies and Pepsi.
My point is that small habits compound, keep low expectations with stern promises, observe the results and adapt life around that. I'm having a blast improving myself using this method, no visible results yet and Im dreading when that plateau will hit but I hope to grow through it with some guidance and perseverance.
Don't know if this advice adds any value to this sub but I hope it was an enjoyable read at least.
