Hey all, last week I decided to visit my doctor to discuss my weight. I already knew that my weight has been an issue and I've just been disregarding it for the past 2 or 3 years. I'm not too sure what clicked last week but something made me change, perhaps it's just the fact that I'm not happy with how I look. When speaking with my docotor he confirmed my weight is an issue and that I should get on track to lose some weight. I told him the truth about everything regarding my life (eating habits, activity levels, food choices, water intake) I just wanted to tell him everything. He informed me that I need to start a calorie deficit and possibly intermittent fasting. He told me everything I needed to know to start my journey on a healthy note. The next day I began my calorie deficit, my doctor estimated I was eating 3,000+ calories daily and said I need to bring it down to around 1,800-2000 calories. I did exactly that, I started eating 1,600 calories a day and walking around 2-3 miles daily. I paid attention to what I ordered at my favorite italian resturant, I paid attention to the protein and calories in everything I bought from the store and let me tell you, I've seen more results than I thought I would.
I'm happy to say that last week, at 19 years old, I started at 319 lbs and since then I've lost 3.7 lbs! I thought that the scale was broken because I've didn't think that such a simple lifestyle change could make such a difference.
I try not to weigh myself so often but it's so tempting. I know once the weight stops coming off so quickly I won't be as motivated as I am now. I'll keep it going though, I just want to get to my goal weight which is 180lbs. It's hard seeing the numbers coming off nicely but seeing no difference in my physical body. I know 3 lbs isn't a lot to see come off physically but I just get too excited for when I hit my 10 lb mark then my 15 lb mark to where I will see more of a difference.
After starting this diet I went from 4-5 sodas a day to 0 sodas (yes I quit cold turkey) to about 80 fl oz of straight water. I feel so much better already, I feel like I'm making a difference in my own life. Honestly, this early success gives me so much hope to what I could weigh in 8 months. I know there will be plateau's but I'll do my best to overcome them. Today I started walking twice a day, each time I did 2 laps around my neighborhood. That comes out to 4 laps a day which I calculated to be 5 miles a day, I haven't walked that much in one day in quite some time.
I've learned so much about food recently and it's so complex, I did some research and figured out that I need a decent amount of protein daily to keep my muscle mass and lose the weight as protein is the most filling macronutrient. I used to work out daily about 4 years ago when I played for my schools football team and I've matained a fair amount of my strength and muscle. The research and reddit post from other's have helped me so much with my weight loss so far and made me realize that I'm not the only one feeling how I am. I'm so glad I'm making this change for the better. Thanks to everyone who has helped me so far!
