If I work out, do I need to eat back the calories I burn?

I've been eating too few calories and I have a feeling it's causing some metabolic issues that are slowing my weight loss. In general, I end up consuming roughly 1400 a day. I'm 42 years old, 272 lbs. On top of this though, I've been going nearly every day to the gym and burning around 240'ish a day.

From what I gather, if I want to drop a couple pounds a week I need to aim higher, around 1600 - 1700 a day.

My question is when I go to the gym and burn 250 calories, if my aim is 1600 - 1700, do I need to "make up" those calories? With my goal being weight loss.
