Weight Loss for Everyone: Wife and I are trying to lose weight and I have some questions that hopefully can be answered.

Wife and I are trying to lose weight and I have some questions that hopefully can be answered.

My wife and I have gained a bit of weight over the last couple of years. We stayed at home and ate in. Horrible decision to not cook homemade food. We also got deep with alcohol.

On the first we stopped all of that. I cook homemade meals and try to calorie count. I am not worried about losing weight. My body naturally burns a lot of calories. Well I don't know how it works, but I didn't gain nearly as much weight as she did. And I lose it pretty easily.

My questions really stem around her body type, medicine, and illnesses that could affect weight loss.

1.) She was taking birth control. A lot of her weight was put on after starting birth control. This also caused physical issues after a few years and her neurologist has told her to stop taking it. She has since stopped. How does birth control affect weight loss?

2.) Wheat allergy. This helps in some aspects to get healthier foods and actually pay attention to what ingredients are in things. Does this have any affect?

3.) Finally, she has hypothyroidism and takes medication for it. Does anyone know or have experience with how this affects weight loss?

Our goal right now is to calorie count. A lot of our calories came from beer and alcohol, and she has a habit of eating large portions of food. We are working on that and it's getting better. Snacking is going away which was a big issue for both of us. We are around 1500 calories a day. She drinks tea, diet tea, and 0 calorie Gatorade. We eat lean meats and veggies. Sometimes potatoes cooked in an air fryer. And fruits.

For me the biggest issue is sodium intake. I eat a ridiculous amount of sunflower seeds haha. Not sure how this affects the process as well.

We haven't started exercising because I don't want to overwhelm her. I grew up an athlete, she more of a scholar. So she has never really worked out at all or did cardio.

Please, any advise or answers will be greatly appreciated. She feels horrible and wants to go back to how she was before the pandemic and I want to do everything I can to help her and keep her motivated.
