Hi there,
As background: I'm male, end 20s and around 1.70. I was always super skinny, without ever having to watch what I ate (used to be around 55/60 kg). I've never really worked out at all. Over the last 5 years or so I gained about 15+kg and I'm now at a firm 73 with a little pouch belly, that I hate.
What do I want: lose the belly, tone muscles. Look and feel better.
What I've done : the benefit of being at home all the time is I can measure everything I eat very exactly. I am currently eating 1800 calories a day, and more if I work out according to calories in / calories out. I weigh and track absolutely every ingredient in Lifesum. I started running for the first time in my life, currently doing a couch to 5k program. I run 4/5 times a week and burn around 300/350 calories (measured by a Garmin smartwatch). I started doing daily Yoga as well, which seems to burn around 100 calories a day. I am also lifting 4/5 times a week. Around 20 sets of 10 with 5kg weights.
I've now kept this up for 3 weeks. Measured everything. Only slipped once, going past my calorie intake. Worked out more than ever before. And I've lost nothing. My weight fluctuates withing 73 kg. I weigh myself at the same time after the bathroom every day, and I jump from 73.2 to 73.8 and back again. I've never seen the number 72.
What am I doing wrong? Friends say that because I am working out it's because I'm gaining muscle, but I don't believe that. Am I too impatient - or should I be seeing some results? Is 3 weeks anything at all?
Is it because I'm not looking at macros? I feel like I'm so scientific about it but nothing I do makes sense. Please help me, I'm doing my best but it pains me not to make any progress.
