So I'm turning 25 in 3 days and I've posted about this before and how I felt so deeply upset that I'm still obese at this stage in my life. But I've received such kind and positive responses in this subreddit, inspiring me to keep pushing forward. I'm a student living on my own and making minimum wage so I never thought to join a gym because of how expensive the prices are. I've tried home workouts but my flat is very small and very creaky and there's an occasional mouse who pops out to say hello so I'm kind of afraid to workout in the living room. I've been waking up early to go for walks but I live in London and with the recent storm and constant rainy weather, it's been demotivating. I started looking at blogs and videos of people who have turned their lives around and it's a pretty consistent pattern - eat well and exercise. I'm already eating better, I've reduced starchy carbs and calories, and increased fruits, vegetables and lean meat in my diet. So I knew I had to get my exercise on track. Here's the fun part; I had money I was saving for a small trip somewhere around the country but I realized I kept delaying that trip because I don't want to travel if I don't feel fit. I know when I go on holiday and I'm too embarrassed to take photos and hate the way I look, I'll just feel miserable and regretful. So I decided to sign up for a local gym membership and luckily I got a 30% discount as a student too. I went to the gym beforehand, to check out the environment and the staff. It's literally a 10 minute walk from my building and everyone was so nice. I'm really excited about this because I think, for the first time, I've prioritised fitness over pleasure. I decided this was my birthday gift to myself - a better life. Anyway, sorry for the long monologue - I just needed to share and this subreddit has been so helpful.
