Do macros really matter that much?

M, 24, 178cm, 158KG.

Just a quick question on macros, tried to ask in the daily Q&A but to no avail.

I’m constantly worrying about hitting my macros, which at the moment I have a 40P/40C/20F split.

Do they really matter that much if the main goal is to be in a calorie deficit consistently? I’m constantly finding myself meticulously measuring portions, looking for way to get my protein/fat up, worrying about not hitting them, worrying about going over on my carbs. It’s sort of taking over... My main goal at the moment is just to lose weight. I currently lift in the gym around 4 times p/w so I should maintain some muscle mass (although some loss may be inevitable - really not sure)

I have my calories at 2100 at the moment and just use myfitnesspal to breakdown my calories.
