For example, let's say I do a consistent 17 mph on my stationary bike. It takes a minute or two for my heart rate to get up to speed, but im doing the same amount of work throughout. Do I burn less calories during those first few minutes because my HR isnt in the zone yet?
Also, what does this mean if you do workouts in short bursts for 5 minutes at a time? Are less calories being burned in that case compared to if you did it all at once? Or does that not matter as long as the work output from your body is overall the same? I'm confused as to how much heart rate alone dictates calories burned.
