The lies we tell ourselves

I was shopping at Goodwill today, and trying on this shirt made me realize that the way I talk to myself has become much more honest since I started this journey.

Six years ago, at my heaviest weight (270 lbs), I often commiserated with friends about how hard shopping for clothes was. "I have a really long torso," I would say, "and shirts these days are all crop tops!"

Of course, that was a lie. Shirts these days aren't all crop tops. And my 5'5 self does not have a long anything. My belly just hangs down too far, and regular sized clothes aren't designed to cover it.

Now, when I look in the mirror, I don't feel the need to lie to myself about things. Yes, I'm still fat (but 50 pounds lighter than I was, and working for more!). And sometimes, like today, shirts still don't fit right. But I can recognize that the fault lies with me, and more importantly, I can change it.

So, losers, what lies did you tell yourself, and how has your perspective changed since starting this journey?
