Big Question for Parent Losers

Hi friends,

Question for those trying to lose weight who also have young ones at home.

Background:

Today at work I was talking to a co-worker (we'll call her #1) (41F) who is doing IF. She is kind of into fad diets (arguably a bit "health crazed"), but is generally a healthy person, exercises semi-regularly and is not overweight. I see her as someone who hunts for the elusive holy grail, health, weight and beauty-wise. And although she will never be wholly satisfied in her pursuit, she is healthier than most people I know.

Afterwards I talked to another co-worker (#2) (37F) who has been making comments about her own weight ("I need to lose a few lbs!" "I feel fat today!"). She knows I am on a weight loss journey and is supportive. But she commented on #1's constant self-monitoring, calorie counting, intermittent fasting, saying, "I could never do that shit around my kids. I couldn't eat with them. Our meal times would be different. And I don't want them to worry or think about things like their weight seeing me do it." Edit: Her children are 3 and 5 respectively, little girls.

Does anyone have any experience with any of these things? Do your kids know you count? Do they know what healthy is? What do you feed them when you have to cook healthy for yourself? Are there ways to balance positive self-image and counting? I am learning to accept that I will have to focus on my weight/eating habits/exercise for my whole life, including when I someday might have kids. I want to take care of myself in a wholesome way and I don't want it to negatively impact my family.
