Are OMAD/IF diets a lifestyle or can you switch back once hitting maintenance?

I’m a 22yo man (5’10” 233lbs) who has been doing a 1,000-1,200 calorie OMAD diet for about a month now. It’s been going great and I’m down 10lbs already without ever being hungry or worrying about food. I plan to continue until getting down to 180lbs at the heaviest.

My big question is once I hit my goal, do I need to keep this diet schedule or can I work back towards a ‘typical’ eating routine? Obviously it’s different for everyone and I would still make sure to follow CICO to stay at maintenance calories, but would my metabolism make me gain weight back?

I’m just curious as I like to travel a lot and between traveling and day-to-day social situations, it’s difficult to pass up food midday sometimes. I’m currently just avoiding it until hitting goal weight, but I’d prefer not to do that forever. I know ‘fad-diets’ have a reputation for relapse, but I wasn’t sure if what I’m doing falls under that category.
