My dad (59M) is 300+ pounds and has been for as long as I (19F) remember. Before I started losing weight for myself I wouldn’t have been concerned, but after learning about how having too much fat can affect your body - I’m super concerned! 5 years ago my dad developed hip problems and since then it’s gotten worse and now he’s barely mobile. He used to be very active despite his weight but now because of his hip problem, he had to completely stop - he can’t walk down a street without being in total pain.
I don’t know if weight caused it, but it’s certainly contributing to it - it’s one thing to have hip pain but to have a massive amount of fat pushing on your hips is not healthy. I’ve tried to help my dad go out for more walks to get him to be more healthy but I know his issue lies with food. He will always finish his large meals, eat some of other peoples meals and then have dessert. I need him to completely change his lifestyle or else he’ll get badly hurt or die but I’m not sure how to bring it up. My mother is kinda “feeder” like? Where she has a preference for large men and only large men and she kinda enables his poor eating habits in order to keep him his size. How do I help him? I don’t want to lose my dad.
I’m sorry if this isn’t the sub for this, please take it down if it is. I’m just very scared - I wish he would realize that his habits don’t only affect him, but me and my 14 year old sister as well.
