I'm male, 27, 6'4" tall.
I weigh 260lbs. I was well over 300lbs when I was younger. I did CICO and ran, got down to the mid 190s within 7 months. Although I lost weight, I learned I didn't have much muscle in my upper body, and the body I uncovered didn't look like what I expected. I was in a bad relationship during 2020-21. I've gotten treatment for my depression and my eating is under control now. I want to start working out again.
I know that to get the body I want, I need to be building muscle. I also know that excessive cardio and calorie restriction aren't very helpful in this pursuit.
I want to keep my diet of 1600 calories - if I don't work out I'm still losing 2-3lbs per week on this. Rather than running every night, I would much rather be lifting weights. However I do have a good 70lbs of fat that I can stand to lose right now, so I'm not ready to eat at maintenance.
Would this do anything? Is this a start to getting in the shape I want?
Should I just focus on slimming and build muscle once I've reached my goal weight of 170lbs?
My goal is to be confident enough to swim with my shirt off, go on dates and have sex by my 30th birthday. I have no interest in being a body builder and injecting shit to gain faster. I just want to be healthy and look good naked.
