28M, 5’11” CW: 218lbs
My city is currently in lockdown and has been for 2 months. At my heaviest I was 242lbs in 2017, over the last three years I’ve been trying to change my lifestyle. Moved out of a toxic living situation and ended a 10 year relationship last year. Started January at 231lbs, and I was pretty inconsistent in getting into dieting and exercise until May.
Started strength training and very little cardio as I had shin splints. I didn’t see much change beyond building some muscle atop the fat. Weighed in at 224lbs in July.
When we went into lockdown I was pretty depressed and ballooned back up to 230lbs in the first week! Decided I didn’t want to spend another summer regretting the choices not made and laced up my shoes, strapped on my brother’s old Apple Watch and started walking 5km every day for two weeks, as well as religiously calorie counting on MyFitnessPal everything I ate and drank.
Switched from beer to vodka sodas, dropped the sweets, started cooking and eating more whole foods instead of whatever easy frozen meals I could find. Made a point to beat the Activity Goals on the Apple Watch at least 5 days a week: 820kcal Move. 30min Exercise. 12 Hr Stand.
After two weeks of walking I started jogging and added another 2km walk in the morning. And in the three weeks since then my jogging KM time has improved by 1 minute. I’ve seen the numbers slide lower and lower on the scale for the last 5 weeks and now I’m happy to report I’m at 218lbs! So roughly lost 2.6lbs a week.
I’m still eating 3 meals a day but I’m at a deficit of around 1800, I tend to go over most days but not by too much.
Feeling really good to have something keeping motivated over a lockdown ☺️
