I'm curious about target heart rate and exercise when very obese. I'm currently around 350lbs and 28 years old. My doctor wants me to do 30 minutes of cardio per day, even just going for a walk. I have read about maximum heart rate as well as target heart rate.
For myself, my maximum is 192 (220-28), 80% of which is around 154. I wear a heart rate monitor so I can track this as I become more active.
Today I was walking around a trail by my house with my dog. Nothing too crazy, mild hills and curves, but definitely got my blood pumping due to being so out of shape. My average heart rate was between 170-180, and one time it did actually hit 190.
I'm trying to understand the logic behind the target heart rate a bit more. I am planning on sharing all this info as well as my heart rate logs with my doctor when I see them in two weeks. In the interim, I'm wondering if anyone can help me understand?
With my exercise today, I was definitely over 80% for most of it. I'm guessing this isn't a "more is better" situation, so I'm wondering if I need to actually be resting every few hundred meters or something to keep my heart rate as close to 80% as possible? When I'm in the middle of it, I'm definitely feeling it, but I dont feel like I'm about to pass out or anything crazy.
Thanks for any advice!
