7 months of hitting the gym and quitting alcohol, 45 pounds down

When COVID hit at the start of 2020 the world was a scary place. I started a job at a call center in January and by late March they had sent us all to work from home. My dad passed away from a stroke March 29th 2020 and family wasn't even able to say goodbye in the hospital. It was a terrible time for me mentally and spiritually. Drinking didn't help.

Working from home and depression eventually had me drinking just over a 5th of vodka per day every day by late February 2021.

It was to the point where my body was running purely on alcohol. Days of binging, then the hangover) for a year. I'd order door dash food and end up able to take a few bites before I'd feel sick. Toward late February, I was taking 3-4 shots in the morning before my shift just to get the shakes down enough to operate a keyboard. I quit my job and turned in the equipment. It was a bad place; and I knew it.

I applied for state provided insurance so I could check myself into a detox facility which ended up taking 3 days because of all the hoops you need to jump through to prove you don't have a job. I did what is NOT to be medically advised. I tapered off myself for those 3 days I had the worst withdrawals of my life. I was chugging water only to puke it back up almost immediately for approx 30 hours total. I was hallucinating and hearing voices. I swear it felt like shaking hands with the devil himself.

Got myself into a 72 hour detox clinic and began working on myself again. I was 220 pounds and fresh out of detox what better time to hit the gym?!

I started out doing at least 40 minutes of cardio per day 5-7 days a week, cutting out soda, (alcohol obviously), fast food, etc.

After 7 months sober and a lot of closed rings later I've lost about 45 pounds and working on building muscle more primarily.

So for anyone out there in an alcohol rut; you can make it out!!
