Hi! I (19F) have been wanting to try and get healthier & lose 10ish pounds. However, I have struggled with disordered eating/binge eating in the past and calorie counting is a big trigger for that (it is actually what started it in the first place when I first started counting back in March). It’s not that I’m even restricting myself that much, it’s as if just seeing how many calories I’m consuming triggers binging. Especially if I go over even by 5 calories I think “oh well I’m over anyways I’ll just binge and start fresh tomorrow.”
Anyways, the beginning of this month I tried to start counting calories again and it worked fine (no binging) for a couple weeks but the past 3 nights I’ve binged. I know the science of weight loss & that you HAVE to be in a calorie deficit to lose, but at this point I feel like I’ve counted enough to know approximately how much (portion/what types of foods) I can eat in a day. Plus, I think I’d rather be a bit off calorie wise and lose slower than my mental health be shit. I’m assuming if I just focus on portions and whole/healthy foods I’ll be okay. So, just wondering if anyone has had any success with weight loss and not counting calories. Thanks!
