Jan 1, 2019 I weighed in at 327.6...it hurt to walk (my Achilles tendons, knees and lower back were in terrible shape)...I lurked in this community + an upcoming trip to Mongolia with a friend I had not seen since like 240lbs coming up made me see the light.
Did all the standard stuff...CICO and exercise...mid 2020 I bought a bike/trainer and hooked up an old PC to an old TV and started to do cardio in my bedroom...Zwift, for anyone unfamiliar, is a digital biking training app...some routes are short and flat...others are punishing for either length or climbs (or both)...
On July 22 after being cardio free (gym closed due to covid) for six months I managed all of 10 minutes at 85watts produced...Not gonna say I was pleased but it was what it was. So I plugged and plugged and plugged.
Today I rode for 2:40 total and did the Alpe du Zwift in 2:19:09...the Alpe is 1050m (like 3500 feet) straight up in a 21 hair pin grind.
This is literally, without a doubt, the hardest athletic achievement of my entire life. Nothing is even close. I got off the bike and could barely stand in the shower. My clothes were drenched in sweat.
And the feeling is absolutely amazing. Out of this world. We focus a lot on the scale and I do too...but the reason to do this is not just a number...it's to be able to do things we couldn't before...walk into an average store and try on clothes...go for a walk without being winded...or bike up a (digital) mountain and be excited to do it again (at some point) and try to get my time under 2 hours...success feeds on itself, so take the wins and build on them...you got this!!!
