Weight gain while gaining muscle, want to drop about 5-10 lb without losing muscle mass.

So I’m gaining muscle and obviously that means I’m gaining weight. I’m 5’8 and 152 lb right now. I would say I am quite muscular I do XC and track and I also do strength training and biking (I’m biking to help my knees) now. Since starting strength training, I’ve gained about 10 lb. I haven’t worked out in about a week because my XC season just ended (it was my last season :/ ) and I’m about to start back up with strength, running, and biking. The only time that is good for me to lose weight is between now and the beginning of January. I mainly want to lose weight because the heavier I am the more my knees hurt when I run (I have REALLY bad knee problems, but they’re getting better). Should I just track calories to lose weight? Or should I do even more cardio? I’ve never tried to lose weight before, so I don’t know how to go about all of this.
