Understanding the 1200 calorie threshold/bmr/etc

Sorry I didn't quite know how to title this post to accurately convey the gist of my thoughts/questions.

I read on this sub many times that not going under 1200 calories a day is sort of a rule than many abide by, as it's considered not healthy and not sustainable. I just again read some comments on this topic on someone else's post and it got me thinking/questioning, but I didn't want to hijack their post.

Doesn't that threshold depend on a person's bmr though? My bmr is currently 1169. Losing another 17 lbs will put me barely across the line into the healthy weight category, my bmr will then be 1092. To get to the middle of the healthy weight category I'd have to get down to 112 lbs (which I don't expect to happen again in my lifetime), bmr would be 1010.

Yes I'm both short and older, if those numbers didn't give it away. I'm just trying to understand the math and the physiology and how it all applies to my life going forward. Obviously I have to eat less than larger, younger people, but how do I figure out how much less is okay? Not that I really want to eat less, or easily could, but I want to know what's safe.

Now I get why my mom, who was even shorter than me, ate so little in her later years yet still stayed a little chubby. And also that I need to strive to stay as active as I can for as long as I can, cuz that sedentary tdee number (which is already at a depressingly low 1398 at my current overweight weight) just keeps shrinking as the years go by. Ugh. It's a bit depressing to type that out but it's helping me to face my reality.

Anyway, if anyone knows enough about this to provide some insight or direct me to credible resources, I would greatly appreciate it.
